Penang CM swearing-in to be announced tomorrow

-

GEORGE TOWN: The date for the swearing-in of the new chief minister of Penang following the general election will be announced tomorrow at the latest, Bernama reported.

State secretary Datuk Seri Farizan Darus said a date had not been set yet for the swearing-in of the chief minister and the formation of the state government.

“The date will be announced by the office of the chief minister.”

It is learnt the delay is because several state leaders, including DAP secretarygeneral Lim Guan Eng and Penang DAP chairman Chow Kon Yeow, were in the federal capital with other Pakatan Harapan (PH) leaders to attend functions associated with the setting up of the federal government.

PH won 37 of the 40 seats in the Penang legislative assembly.

It is also believed that Lim, who is caretaker chief minister, may move to the federal level following PH’s victory in GE14.

In SHAH ALAM, the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, has consented to the appointment of Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali as the mentri besar of Selangor for a second term.

Datuk Mohamad Munir Bani, the private secretary to the sultan, said yesterday the appointment and swearing-in of the Selangor mentri besar would take place at the Balairung Seri of Istana Alam Shah in Klang at 3pm tomorrow.

“The Sultan of Selangor has consented to the setting up of the Selangor government administration as soon as possible following the mandate received from the people to ensure the smooth running of the state government as well as the harmony and well-being of the people,” he said in a statement.

Mohamad Munir said Mohamed Azmin had an audience with Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah at noon yesterday to convey to the ruler the results of the general election for Selangor and the current status in the PH leadership.

He said Mohamed Azmin informed the ruler that he had the support of the PH elected representatives in Selangor to be appointed as the mentri besar.

In KUALA PILAH, the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negri Sembilan Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir will set a date for the swearing-in of the new mentri besar, said Negri Sembilan PH chairman Aminuddin Harun.

He said Tuanku Muhriz had already given his consent for the party to set up a new state government.

"In the two-hour meeting just now, 20 state assembly members who won yesterday were with him. It was a good and cordial meeting," he told reporters in the compound of Istana Seri Menanti.

Aminuddin, who is also state Parti Keadilan Rakyat chief, said he had handed his letter of credentials concerning his selection as the 11th mentri besar to Tuanku Muhriz.
