Syed Saddiq pledges to develop Muar
KUALA LUMPUR: The newly elected representative for Muar, PKR’s Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, said he hopes to develop the parliamentary constituency as an economic engine for the northern part of Johor and to ensure Malaysia will rise as the “Asian Tiger”.
He said he believes elected representatives of different parties would do more good if they could collaborate and work together, and not practise “revenge politics”.
“Friends in Umno and PAS have roles in my plans to develop Muar and Malaysia as a whole. My promise is that your future will not dim just because I was elected to represent the people for this term,” he said in a statement yesterday.
“To my opponents in Muar, I extend my friendship and cooperation for us to develop Muar as the ‘Pearl of Johor’.”
Syed Saddiq won the Muar parliamentary seat in a three-cornered fight involving Barisan Nasional candidate Datuk Razali Ibrahim and PAS candidate Abdul Aziz Talib.
He garnered 22,341 votes, while Razali polled 15,388, and Abdul Aziz, 4,354.
The 25-year-old International Islamic University law graduate also pointed out that his involvement in politics was not merely to win a seat, but also to champion youths.
“I entered politics to reinstate power to the people so that no political leader or political party will be too powerful.” – Bernama
