Put aside political differences, Khairy to Pakatan

- BY AMAR SHAH MOHSEN

KUALA LUMPUR: Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin hopes the new Pakatan Harapan (PH) government will put the people’s best interest above anything else, and not make decisions based on political differences.

Khairy said while he no longer has a say on the government’s decision-making process, PH should look objectively at the policies and initiatives kickstarted by Barisan Nasional (BN).

“It’s all up to the new government (whether it wants to discontinue some policies). If they feel that these policies and programmes can be continued, then carry on.

“But if they feel that they are irrelevant in the context of their political movement, then by all means, I can’t force them. I just hope they view these policies and programmes objectively.

“Even if they feel these policies are not right, then review them professionally, putting aside all political differences,” he told reporters after an Umno supreme council meeting yesterday.

Khairy, the former youth and sports minister, was responsible for overseeing the National Transformation 2050 (TN50) underDatuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak’s administration.

On calls for younger blood to lead Umno after its disastrous outing at the last general election, Khairy said the party should be helmed by the one most capable of restoring it to its grace, regardless of age.
