A natural solution for inflammation
INFLAMMATION is an in-built body defence mechanism that is a response to damage in our body. It can be divided into two forms – acute and chronic inflammation.
Acute inflammation is the body’s immediate response to injury due to physical trauma, or any external infectious foreign substances such as bacteria or viruses. It prevents further injury, and facilitates the healing process.
However, when inflammation becomes persistent, it can result in long-term inflammation, also known as chronic inflammation.
Chronic inflammation can affect many parts of the body, causing continuous internal damage to the blood vessels, cells, and organs.
If left unchecked, it can lead to other health problems, such as cardiovascular diseases, cancers, diabetes, asthma and joint pains.
Chronic inflammation has been acknowledged to be associated with diabetes, cardiovascular and neurodegenerative diseases, and cancer, also known as noncommunicable diseases (NCDs).
NCDs have been on the rise over the years. According to a 2014 World Health Organisation report, 73% of mortality cases in Malaysia are caused by NCDs, with cardiovascular disease topping the list at 37%, followed by cancer at 15%.
These numbers keep increasing despite calls from the Ministry of Health asking people to live a healthy and active lifestyle with healthier diets of fewer fats and more fruits and vegetables.
For those seeking to improve their health and to better manage chronic inflammation naturally, one alternative is curcumin.
Curcumin originates from turmeric ( above), which has been used in India for both culinary and healing purposes, especially in Ayurvedic medicine, for thousands of years.
Ayurveda practitioners in the past have included turmeric in medicines that were swallowed, as well as those that were applied to the skin.
Studies have shown that curcumin has positive effects on patients with various inflammatory diseases, such as cardiovascular disease and diabetes, as well as liver conditions, skin conditions, and even cancer.
Evidence shows curcumin works to switch off the multiple inflammation mechanisms in the body, that cascade throughout the body from the activation of an inflammatory factor called NF-kB (Nuclear factor kappa B).
By switching off the action of NFkB, the unwanted inflammation process will be reduced, and hence, minimising the damage on cells, tissues, and organs.
However, curcumin isn’t easily absorbed into the body. Fortunately, Japanese company Theravalues Corporation has developed an innovative curcumin formulation called Theracurmin, which enhances the absorption of curcumin by 2,800%!
Theracurmin is made from ultrafine granulation and suspension technology, which converts the turmeric powder into sub-micron particles called nano-molecular curcumin.
The nano-molecular curcumin can be rapidly absorbed into the body within just one hour, and retained up to 24 hours, allowing the body to obtain fast and longer-lasting protection against inflammation, and reducing the risk of NCDs.
Taking a low dosage of 600mg of Theracurmin, which provides more curcumin than 100 teaspoons of turmeric powder, is a convenient and effective way to achieve the desired results.
It is important to take sufficient curcumin on a daily basis to protect ourselves from NCDs.
