Shaping the way people think
> Scholarship up for grabs at HELP University’s Psychology School Convention
MANY exciting and rapid developments can be seen as part of the fourth industrial revolution and it is said that the field of psychology is one of the fundamental drivers of these changes.
In that light, the Psychology School Convention, an annual event at HELP’s Subang 2 campus explores how various aspects of psychology like neuropsychology, forensic and cognitive psychology, are shaping the way people think, work and live in the age of the 4IR. Close to 1,000 students from over 50 schools across the nation attend this FOC one-day convention every year.
In previous years, attendees have experienced psychology in a fun and interactive way through experiential booths, virtual reality demonstrations and workshops on topics like online predators, anxiety disorders, managing stress, studying smart, bullying, music therapy, cyber addictions, etc.
Part of the convention includes HELP’s Psychology Challenge which last saw around 30 schools participating, culminating with Ng Han Xiang of SMK Kota Kemuning, winning a full scholarship worth RM90,000.
Last year, HELP University Faculty of Behaviourial Science dean, Dr Goh Chee Leong, kick-started the convention with a keynote address. He stated that psychology provides solutions that address most major challenges faced by society. “Psychology, through its scientific understanding of people, can present ideas that bring understanding, unity, peace, success, innovation and productivity – elements that can help Malaysia progress further,” he said.
Other psychology experts, including those from HELP, shared their knowledge and spoke on the functions and design of the brain, how it works, its structures and what happens when it is damaged. Topics like human emotions and complex/secondary emotions, as well as social psychology were not left out.
This year, be part of this exciting and informative programme focusing on “How psychology is driving the 4IR in areas like virtual reality research and neuropsychology experiments”.
