Beauty starts from within

> Many people may not realise that a beautiful skin is a direct result of a healthy liver functioning at its optimum

PRESERVING the appearance of the skin is a major concern especially among women. However, when looking at improving skin health, we rarely take our liver into consideration.

In fact, our skin is a direct reflection of what is going on in our liver. Worsening skin problems are actually a sign of liver dysfunction.

Physical beauty starts from within. A healthy liver is essential for the maintenance of our skin, as it is a major detoxifying organ in our body.

The liver detoxifies harmful substances, whether they come from internal sources such as burning sugars, fats and protein, or from external sources like medications, drugs, food additives, preservatives, chemicals, air pollution, and other factors.

If your liver is not functioning optimally, toxins are insufficiently broken down, and are forced to be eliminated via our skin.

These irritating toxins can inflame the skin resulting in dermatitis, brown liver spots, rashes, acne, dryness, and dull and sagging skin.

This is common among people who often stay up late, practise an inactive lifestyle, and have an imbalanced diet.

To prevent your liver from flushing the unwanted toxins via your skin, it would be useful to pay attention to the liver and get rid of toxin buildup.

Taking glutathione, a natural antioxidant found in most food like vegetables and animal organs, is a good option.

Glutathione is a molecule found naturally in every cell of the body. Produced by the liver, it is made up of three simple building blocks of protein or amino acids – cysteine, glycine, and glutamine.

Glutathione is known as a powerful antioxidant and life- saving molecule that delivers plenty of health benefits.

Of the many organs in the body, glutathione is particularly concentrated in the liver.

It takes charge of two very important roles in the liver during body metabolism, one being the master of antioxidants, and the other being a critical detoxifier.

Glutathione is coined as the master of antioxidants for its primary antioxidative protection, and ability to resuscitate other secondary antioxidants.

Being an antioxidant that is native to our body (endogenous), it possesses very high catalytic properties for the elimination of millions of free radicals at any time.

At the same time, it gives a second breath of life to secondary allies such as vitamins C and E, which are quickly exhausted after eliminating one free radical at a time.

Glutathione owes much of its detoxifying prowess to its unique structure.

All toxins in the body go through two phases of detoxification in the liver.

During the first phase, toxins are converted into water-soluble substances to be flushed out.

Glutathione comes into play in the subsequent phase, whereby it grabs hold of a toxin and ‘escorts’ it out of the body via urine or bile.

In fact, oral administration of glutathione is one of the potential therapeutic strategies to treat liver disease and improve liver function.

Taking the recommended dosage of about 200mg to 300mg of glutathione per day for at

least four months can result in a glowing healthy skin with improved skin complexion.

Again, owing to its antioxidative power, glutathione is able to suppress melanin production enzymes and prevent sun damage.

Study done on a Japanesepatented glutathione, known as Kohjin glutathione, demonstrated very promising effects on skin lightening, and that includes lightening effects on UV spots.

However, not all glutathione are created equal. Glutathione is a protein by nature, and its absorbability into the body is a concern.

When looking for a good quality oral glutathione supplement, ensure that it is one with scientific proof about its absorption and bioavailability, and that it is a food-derived glutathione, and not a genetically-modified one.

Also, it is best if it is formulated together with other potent antioxidants such as alpha lipoic acid and lycopene, as studies show that these enhance the antioxidative power of glutathione.

As the old saying goes: “Beauty comes from within”, and it starts from our liver and a cleaner body. So let’s cleanse your way to clear, glowing skin today.
