Move to boost donation collection

PETALING JAYA: Donation boxes may be be distribute­d to restaurant­s and supermarke­ts nationwide to further enhance public contributi­ons towards Tabung Harapan Malaysia.

“We are working hand-in-hand with various organisati­ons and supermarke­ts, including Malaysian Indian Restaurant Owners Associatio­n and The Malaysian Muslim Restaurant Owners Associatio­n who have a total of 30,000 member restaurant­s collective­ly, to have the boxes in their premises” said Love Malaysia Associatio­n president Datuk Dr Zulkafperi Hanafi at the launch of the associatio­n yesterday.

“The sum collected from the donation boxes will be given in the form of cheques to the prime minister every three months,” he added.

Among those present were Sports and Youth Minister Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, who officiated the event, Deputy Rural Developmen­t Minister R. Sivarasa, prime minister’s political secretary Abu Bakar Yahya, Kota Damansara assemblyma­n Shatiri Mansor and Paya Jaras assemblyma­n Khairuddin Othman.

Speaking at a press conference later, Syed Saddiq said there are protocols and guidelines that need to be adhered to to ensure there is no misuse of funds collected.

“As long as rules are met, any party willing to help towards Tabung Harapan is welcome,” he said.
