> Beautiful souls go bald to raise funds and cancer awareness

-

AFTER clipping off the hair on over 1,600 heads on Oct 6, Khind Starfish Foundation raised more than RM1 million for three cancer-related organisations in Malaysia.

Raising RM1 million was made possible through the foundation’s Bald & Beautiful 3.0 charity do, which ran a full day and witnessed a consistent stream of Malaysians empathetic to the plight of cancer-stricken patients and survivors.

Bald & Beautiful is part of Khind Starfish Foundation’s corporate social responsibility bid into cancer research.

It is through this event that the foundation and the Khind Group of companies raise funds towards spreading awareness on cancer and providing support for cancer patients.

According to statistics, each year, 30,000 to 40,000 Malaysians are diagnosed with cancer. However, the numbers are expected to surge within the next 30 years, eventually rising to between 50,000 and 60,000.

“The public’s awareness about cancer is low and many cancer-related groups need financial support. Hence, the foundation launched the ‘Bald & Beautiful’ cancer awareness and fundraising campaign to boost awareness, raise funds for cancer research and help cancer patients,” said Khind Group CEO and Khind Starfish Foundation chairman PK Cheng.

Cheng also stated that the “Bald & Beautiful 3.0” charity event this year, which was themed “Go Bald, Raise Fund, Spread Love”, rightly did that and more, as it was hugely successful due to the outpouring of support from so many, including employees, corporations, friends, colleagues, families, business partners and sponsors, as well as the public.

He said that in 2012, the first Bald & Beautiful event managed to raise RM250,000 while the second event raised more than RM1.2 million in donations.

Beneficiaries of this year’s funds are Cancer Research Malaysia (CRM), the Sarawak Children’s Cancer Society (SCCS) and the Kuching Life Care Society.

Each of these non-profit organisations are involved in helping the community through various research, treatment and post-care support for patients suffering from cancer.
