Hermes launches e-commerce site in China

-

HERMÈS is doubling down on its efforts to conquer the Chinese market with the launch of a dedicated e-commerce site.

The luxury French fashion brand launched the platform this week, reports Jing Daily, offering womenswear and menswear, as well as its signature handbags (with the exception of its ‘Birkin' and ‘Kelly' models), fragrances and an accessories range spanning footwear and jewellery.

The move comes weeks after the house's CEO, Axel Dumas, discussed the topic with WWD, telling the publication: "It's a strong means of recruiting and enlarging our clientele."

Hermès is not the only fashion giant with its eye on the Chinese market. This September, the contemporary clothing label COS, which is owned by the Swedish retailer H&M, confirmed its expansion into the region with the launch of a standalone website, and an online storefront on Alibaba's Tmall platform.

Meanwhile, Miu Miu is preparing to show its Resort 2019 collection in Shanghai once again this November – a city also selected by Tommy Hilfiger for his most recent catwalk extravaganza on Sept 4. The summer saw Tod's launch a new bag through the Chinese social media platform WeChat, while Michael Kors teamed up with the Chinese actress and singer Yang Mi on a limited-edition purse that was also sold exclusively on the platform. – AFP Relaxnews
