Viva Venezuela with MPO
THE Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) is rocking to a Latin America beat tomorrow at 8.30pm, and Sunday at 3pm at the Dewan Filharmonik Petronas, KLCC.
The concerts will witness the return of renowned Venezuelan composer and electric harpist Leonard Jácome ( right) who made his debut with the MPO at DFP in 2016.
Jácome will also be holding a harp masterclass tomorrow at 2pm at DFP. Learn about Venezuelan music and rhythms, along with some tips from the maestro.
Jácome has showcased his musicianship all over South America including Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia and Chile, and other countries such as South Africa, Austria, the US, Japan and Sweden.
He has received awards at international festivals and become a jury at various renowned harp competitions. He also has over 150 recordings under his belt.
The MPO will present Jácome’s composition entitled Arpa mestiza, which tells the story of his life and is also a tribute to his hometown, Rubio.
Also included in the programme is an exciting Latin work entitled Mosaico Llanero Venezolano and Rachmaninoff’s Symphony No.2.
Rachmaninoff conducted the first performance in 1908 in St Petersburg, Russia, followed by another performance in America in 1909 with the Philadelphia Orchestra.
The MPO will be led by Finnish maestro Sasha Mäkilä. The concerts, held in collaboration with the Embassy of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, will also feature the musicians from the Malaysian Philharmonic Youth Orchestra (MPYO).
