Viva Venezuela with MPO

THE Malaysian Phil­har­monic Orchestra (MPO) is rock­ing to a Latin Amer­ica beat to­mor­row at 8.30pm, and Sun­day at 3pm at the De­wan Fil­har­monik Petronas, KLCC.

The con­certs will wit­ness the re­turn of renowned Venezue­lan com­poser and elec­tric harpist Leonard Já­come ( right) who made his de­but with the MPO at DFP in 2016.

Já­come will also be hold­ing a harp mas­ter­class to­mor­row at 2pm at DFP. Learn about Venezue­lan mu­sic and rhythms, along with some tips from the mae­stro.

Já­come has show­cased his mu­si­cian­ship all over South Amer­ica in­clud­ing Ar­gentina, Brazil, Bo­livia and Chile, and other coun­tries such as South Africa, Aus­tria, the US, Ja­pan and Swe­den.

He has re­ceived awards at in­ter­na­tional fes­ti­vals and be­come a jury at var­i­ous renowned harp com­pe­ti­tions. He also has over 150 record­ings un­der his belt.

The MPO will present Já­come’s com­po­si­tion en­ti­tled Arpa mes­tiza, which tells the story of his life and is also a trib­ute to his home­town, Ru­bio.

Also in­cluded in the pro­gramme is an ex­cit­ing Latin work en­ti­tled Mo­saico Llanero Vene­zolano and Rach­mani­noff’s Symphony No.2.

Rach­mani­noff con­ducted the first per­for­mance in 1908 in St Peters­burg, Rus­sia, fol­lowed by an­other per­for­mance in Amer­ica in 1909 with the Philadel­phia Orchestra.

The MPO will be led by Fin­nish mae­stro Sasha Mäk­ilä. The con­certs, held in col­lab­o­ra­tion with the Em­bassy of the Bo­li­var­ian Repub­lic of Venezuela, will also fea­ture the mu­si­cians from the Malaysian Phil­har­monic Youth Orchestra (MPYO).
