Dry skin no more

-

THE importance of consistent and constant foot care is often overlooked for other types of body care, especially for diabetics as dry skin on the feet may lead to cracking and fissuring, creating an entry point for bacteria.

As diabetics would experience numbness in their feet due to high blood sugar, it can be hard to tell when they have a problem like a blister, sore, callus or cut on the foot. Therefore, it is important to ensure proper foot care, so that underlying tissues are protected from bacterial infections.

Basic foot care involves inspecting the feet and toes. Use a mirror or ask someone to help if you have trouble bending over. Be sure to examine the six major areas on the bottom of each foot – tip of the big toe, base of little toes, heel, outside edge and across the ball of the foot.

Look out for anything out of the ordinary such as spots, sores, cuts, cracks or callus. Cover any cuts or blisters and change the plaster every day. Consult a doctor if it does not heal.

Also, wash your feet every day with warm water and mild soap, and make sure to dry your feet well as infections tend to develop in moist areas such as in between the toes.

Emollients are highly useful to manage dry skin and are recommended as part of the foot care regimen for diabetics. Diabetics should look for emollients with linoleic acid, a fatty acid that helps to maintain a healthy skin barrier, as the body cannot produce linoleic acid on its own.

Linola Foot Lotion is specially designed to tackle dry, cracked and calloused skin on the feet. It contains linoleic acid to improve skin regeneration and resistance, and its low pH value of 4 helps keep skin healthy while promoting the reduction of excess, cracked calluses.

Linola also has specifically formulated products that target different areas of the body such as the face and hands. Each product is thoroughly researched and tested to ensure each product meets the specific needs of different areas of the body.

The entire range of products is available exclusively in Caring pharmacies.
