-

Author: Andy McDermott Publisher: Headline ISBN: 9781472236845

THIS is McDermott’s newest Wilde and Chase novel (after King Solomon’s Curse) in which the intrepid pair find themselves in another race against time to save the world before modern civilisation is brought to its knees in another gripping thriller.

World-famous archaeologist Nina Wilde and her husband, ex-SAS bodyguard Eddie Chase, believe their days of danger are behind them, and that they can now relax and enjoy life with their daughter Macy. But something always crops up.

When a ludicrously wealthy Emir holds an exhibition of priceless Atlantis artefacts on the maiden voyage of his luxurious cruise ship Atlantia, he invites Nina as his guest of honour. Unfortunately, Nina, as always, is a magnet for trouble.

A priceless artefact goes missing during a daring raid on the cruise ship. When Nina is framed for the theft, she has no choice but to flee. On the run, Nina discovers that a shadowy group is searching for an ancient Atlantean weapon with great destructive power.

Meanwhile, Eddie is roped in to help out and as usual, he has to call on a multi-talented team of friends to assist him.

He must also risk his own life to learn who is behind this heist.

Hunted by enemies with deadly ambitions, only Nina and Eddie can unearth the truth before a devastating force is unleashed on the world.

Much of The Spear of Atlantis takes place either at sea, or across Spain. Nina manages to get some chapters of her own in the novel, as she works out some extremely complex clues while trying to stay one step ahead of the bad guys.

McDermott has got his characters down to the letter. He’s extremely entertaining, and full of surprises here.

The baddies are a mixed and varied bunch, and a rather interesting and unusual couple is thrown in to spice up the thriller. An enjoyable read. – M.L.M.
