Miti imposes provisional anti-dumping duties on rebar products, continues probe

-

KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of International Trade and Industry (Miti) has found sufficient evidence to continue with its anti-dumping investigation on the steel concrete reinforcing bar (rebar) products imported from Singapore and Turkey.

In a statement yesterday, Miti said the preliminary investigation was conducted under Section 23 of the Countervailing and Anti-Dumping Duties Act 1993, following a petition filed by Malaysia Steel Association on behalf of the domestic producers.

The petition claimed that rebar products originating in or exported from the alleged countries were being imported into Malaysia at a lower price compared with the selling price in the domestic market, thus affecting the local industry.

“The government has also decided to impose a provisional measure, which shall be in the form of provisional anti-dumping duties guaranteed by a security equivalent to the amount of the dumping margins determined in preliminary determination.

“Provisional anti-dumping duties ranging from nil to 20.09% will be applied on imports of subject merchandise from the alleged countries and shall be effective not more than 120 days from Sept 23, 2019,” it said.

Based on the findings of the

the investigation, a final determination would be made no later than Jan 21, 2020, the ministry said.

It added that interested parties would be able to access the nonconfidential version of the report on the preliminary determination by submitting a written request to the ministry. – Bernama
