‘MH17 trial will bring closure to victims’ kin’
KUALA LUMPUR: Court proceedings examining criminal responsibility in the downing of Malaysia Airlines flight MH17, which will start in March next year, will hopefully bring closure for the victims’ families, says Ukrainian ambassador to Malaysia Olexander Nechytaylo.
“After more than five years of investigation, the trial will be an important milestone in bringing closure to the families and relatives.”
On July 17, 2014, the aircraft, with 298 onboard from Amsterdam en route to Kuala Lumpur, was shot down over Ukraine.
In June 2019, an international joint investigation team announced that three Russians and one Ukrainian would be charged with the downing of MH17.
International arrest warrants were issued for the four, who will be tried in absentia on March 9, 2020, in The Hague. – Bernama
