Low airfare cheer for CNY

PETALING JAYA: Low-cost carrier AirAsia will mark Chinese New Year (CNY) with special late night flights at fixed one-way, all-in low fares between Peninsular Malaysia and Sabah and Sarawak from Jan 21 to Jan 31.

The move is also in accordance with the government’s call to offer fixed rate fares to the public before CNY. Tickets were available for sale beginning yesterday.

In a statement, AirAsia said fares from Kuala Lumpur to Sibu, Bintulu and Miri as well as Johor Baru-Sibu will be priced at RM149.

Flights from KL to Sandakan and Tawau will be at a fixed price of RM199.

In addition to the late-night flights at fixed fares to Sabah and Sarawak, AirAsia will add more flights to 20 routes across the country and to Singapore.

These include flights from KL to Langkawi, Penang, Sibu, Tawau and Singapore, from Penang to Singapore as well as flights from Ipoh to Johor Baru and Singapore.

Other flights are from Alor Star to Johor Baru, from Kota Kinabalu to KL, Johor Baru, Penang and Tawau, from Johor Baru to Kuching, Miri , Sibu and Tawau and from Kuching to KL, Sibu and Singapore.

AirAsia Malaysia chief executive officer Riad Asmat said the additional late-night flights will see additional seats to popular routes across the country and Singapore, as well as extra seats to selected cities in Sabah and Sarawak for the upcoming festive celebratio­n.

“We are pleased to announce the additional late night flights with 12,960 seats at fixed low fares to selected cities in East Malaysia, in addition to the 65,826 additional seats to popular routes across Malaysia and Singapore,” he said.
