PETALING JAYA: Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) has warned users against making bill payments to syndicates posing as TNB staff and offering discounts.

TNB chief retail officer Megat Jalaluddin Megat Hassan said they have received complaints from customers that they were deceived by individuals claiming to be TNB bill collection agents.

“Among their (syndicates) tactics include offering discounted electricity bills if users make payments through them and urging consumers with arrears to settle them through certain bank accounts to avoid a power supply cut,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Megat Jalaluddin said while TNB does have debt collection agents appointed by the company, they would only ask users with arrears to make payments through TNB’s official payment channels.

The three main payment channels are TNB’s kiosks or counters nationwide, its official online portal www.mytnb.com.my and via the myTNB mobile application.

“Alternatively, users can also pay their bills through online banking and JomPay, at Pos Malaysia counters, 7-Eleven stores, Petronas Mesra shops, 99 Speedmart outlets and PayQuick kiosks.

“For the ease of our customers, they can also register to make monthly direct debit through their credit cards or bank accounts.”

Megat Jalaluddin urged users to contact TNB CareLine at 1-300-88-5454 for any queries.
