Move to check mobile network issues

O MCMC to use fiberisation connectivity centre to monitor signal levels to gauge service quality

PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) will address mobile network coverage issues nationwide through the National Fiberisation and Connectivity Plan (NFCP).

The NFCP dashboard is an operations centre which has been set up by MCMC and would be able to monitor and provide information on network signal levels. It is fitted with relevant metrics and dashboards, focusing on the programme’s targets and quality of experience and service.

“The revised Mandatory Standard on Quality of Service (MSQoS), which is planned to be enforced by early 2020, will also act to address improvements in the quality of reception/service,” MCMC said yesterday.

The MSQoS is a standard that was put in place to ensure that minimum standards of quality are offered to protect the rights of consumers.

“It was also set to provide consumers with visible and specific standards through which the quality of services received or used can be measured,” it added.

MSQoS covers billing, complaints, installation, restoration, availability and technical aspects. For technical aspects, MCMC would conduct its own tests to verify compliance with the standards.

MCMC also shared that as of October 2019, Malaysia has covered almost 95.5% of populated areas with 3G network and 82.2% of populated areas with 4G network.

The NFCP was launched on Sept 19 last year. It was formulated to improve broadband quality and coverage, reduce prices and provide wider internet access to the public.
