Covid-19 war efforts recognised globally

PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia has been recognised as one of the most successful countries in the world in handling and controllin­g the Covid-19 pandemic, said Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

Addressing about 250 staff of the Prime Minister’s Department at an assembly here yesterday, Muhyiddin said the success was due to the hard work and cooperatio­n of the government and the entire Malaysian society.

“We are grateful Malaysia has been able to sail through a very difficult time in dealing with the pandemic that has hit the whole world.”

It was his first address to ministry staff since the pandemic began and the movement control order (MCO) was put in place.

Muhyiddin attributed the success to the decisive action, quick decisions and wisdom of those leading the effort to control the spread of the virus.

He said the government has never underestim­ated any issue concerning the wellbeing of the people even though Malaysia had no experience in dealing with such a pandemic.

Muhyiddin added the Perikatan Nasional government upheld all the principles it had fought for to create a government which is clean and has integrity.

Stressing that there would be no compromise on the matter, Muhyiddin said the government will continue with the National Anti-Corruption Plan which it had agreed on with the previous administra­tion.

“We want to ensure that the government administra­tion is run according to the ‘rule of law,’ and what we implement is not seen as abusing our powers.”
