No problems getting hotels to serve as quarantine centres: Nadma

-

KUALA LUMPUR: While many hotels that served as quarantine centres previously preferred not to continue to offer their premises again, there were others in favour of it.

National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) director-general Datuk Mohtar Mohd Abd Rahman said the state Disaster Management Committee in charge of managing quarantine stations has received applications from many hotels offering their premises for quarantine purposes.

According to Mohtar, some hotels that served as quarantine centres previously had pulled out this time as they wanted to focus on reviving their businesses.

“We’re grateful that there are many hotels willing to cooperate with us though they have to observe procedures.”

On Aug 1, Senior Minister (Defence) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob was quoted as saying that between July 24 and July 31, a total of 3,384 individuals returned from abroad and are undergoing quarantine at 14 hotels and five public training institutes in Kuala Lumpur, Negri Sembilan, Penang, Kelantan, Sarawak, Selangor and Johor.

On Nadma’s level of preparedness in the implementation of the quarantine order in view of the increase in person under surveillance cases, Mohtar said the agency is well prepared and has made several improvements to the quarantine process as “we have learned a lot from our previous experience”. – Bernama
