Pink pet cafe bracelet sparks alarm

-

GEORGE TOWN: Pink bracelets that were used by a pet cafe to identify its customers caused panic in Penang over the weekend.

A tourist who took a photo of a couple wearing them uploaded it on social media. Another tourist who saw the post, immediately lodged a police report.

The police apprehended the couple only to discover the bracelets had the words “Husky and the Gang” on it.

The couple, a 21-year-old factory worker and his 22-year-old girlfriend who live in

Butterworth, decided to spend their Sunday on the island.

They had earlier visited the Corgi and the Gang Pet Cafe in New World Park, where they were required to wear the bracelets before entering. However, they kept the bracelets on after leaving the cafe while making their way to Penang Hill, where the tourist spotted them.

Fearing the worst, the tourist took a picture of them with the bracelets and posted it on social media to warn others of a possible risk considering the couple could have boarded a crowded railwcar to the summit.

Another tourist, disturbed by the image on social media, lodged a police report to get the authorities to take action.

The police eventually tracked down the couple at Queensbay Mall, only to discover that it was all a misunderstanding.

North-East district police chief ACP Soffian Santong said the couple were not listed as persons under surveillance, who are required to undergo home quarantine. – by Ian McIntyre
