Shoe found at construction site possibly linked to missing Aussie
GEORGE TOWN: The son of missing Australian, Annapuranee Jenkins, has stumbled upon part of a shoe at a construction site near the Penang Turf Club, which he said resembles the shoes his mother was last seen wearing.
Steven Jenkins said his mother would often wear a black pair of shoes.
A police spokesman confirmed that a part of a shoe was found but was uncertain if the item could be linked to the missing Aussie.
Annapuranee was 66 years old at the time of her disappearance while in Penang with her husband Frank some three years ago.
She was last seen at the Sri Ramakrisha
Orphanage in Scotland Road.
Steven was allowed to visit the site after several personal items, such as a crucifix and rosary beads, as well as pieces of clothing, believed to belong to Annapuranee, were found there.
The area has since been cordoned off while police await results of a DNA test on skeletal remains of a pelvic bone found at the site.
Steven had earlier left Adelaide, where the family resides, for Penang but had to spend 14 days under quarantine at the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) base in Butterworth.
Annapuranee, described as petite, was from Parit Buntar in Perak before she came to
Gemilang
Penang in the 1970s where she met Frank, who was attached to the RAAF.
They have two children grandchildren.
On Dec 13, 2017, Annapuranee walked from her hotel in George Town to a dental clinic in Pulau Tikus after a ride-hailing taxi failed to show up.
After the dental treatment, she sought the clinic’s help to book her a taxi to the Little Sisters’ of the Poor Home for the Infirm in Batu Lanchang.
On her request, the taxi dropped her off before reaching the home and she was never seen again. – by Ian McIntyre
