127 SOP flouters held, eight remanded
PETALING JAYA: Violations against restrictions on movement to curb the spread of Covid-19 seem to continue unabated.
The long arm of the law caught up with another 127 flouters on Tuesday. Eight of them ended up behind bars while the rest were issued compounds.
In a statement issued yesterday, Senior Minister (Defence) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said 65 of those caught were involved in activities that were not in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOP), and another 62 were caught in crowded places where social distancing was not practised.
On another matter, Ismail Sabri said a total of 5,355 individuals who returned from abroad between July 24 and Aug 4 have been placed in 21 hotels and five public learning institutes in Kuala Lumpur, Negri Sembilan, Penang, Kelantan, Sarawak, Selangor, Johor and Perak.
Thirteen of the returnees have been sent to hospital for treatment.
They had visited 28 countries – Australia, Bangladesh, Brunei, Cambodia, China, Egypt, France, Holland, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia,
Iran, Japan, Nepal, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, the Philippines, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Spain, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom and Vietnam.
Ismail Sabri said on Tuesday police had checked 1,969 individuals who were required to undergo 14-day quarantine at home.
Action had been taken against five for failing to comply with the home quarantine SOP.
Meanwhile, out of 38 construction sites inspected by the Construction Industry Development Board, one failed to show evidence of adhering to the SOP while another three remained close.
