PETALING JAYA: Another 121 individuals have been caught for flouting the standard operating procedures (SOP) under the recovery movement control order.

Thirty-two of them were jailed while another two were released on police bail. The remaining 87 were issued compounds.

At a news conference yesterday, Senior Minister (Defence) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said of the 2,160 individuals who have been ordered to undergo home quarantine, 51 were caught on Wednesday for failing to adhere to the SOP.

Authorities also checked 4,366 supermarkets, 5,848 restaurants, 1,218 hawker stalls and 597 night markets. The operations were carried out by 17,402 personnel in 5,024 teams.

Ismail Sabri said since July 24, a total of 6,473 people who entered Malaysia through its various entry points have been sent to 31 quarantine centres.

Eighteen of them, who tested positive for Covid-19, were subsequently sent to hospital.

In Ops Benteng, an operation to crack down on undocumented migrants, 63 roadblocks were set up and 35,471 vehicles were checked, leading to the arrest of two migrants.

On the Slim by-election, for which polling day has been set for Aug 29, Ismail Sabri said the same SOP used in the Chini by-election would be applied.

The by-election was called following the death of Slim state assemblyman Datuk Mohd Khushairi Abdul Talib on July 15.

The Election Commission has set Aug 16 as nomination day and Aug 25 for early voting.

Campaigns and ceramah for the by-election must be held in closed or gated areas where activities are easily monitored. Attendees must also have their temperature taken.

The number of attendees must not exceed 250 at any time, to ensure social distancing and the wearing face masks is compulsory.

On another matter, Ismail Sabri said only those with official invitation cards will be allowed to participate in the Malaysia Agriculture, Horticulture and Agrotourism Show 2020 slated for Nov 26 to 29. Others however, will be able to follow the proceedings virtually.

On the partial lockdown in Hosba Valley in Kedah, he said residents were free to move about and even go to work as long as they test negative for Covid-19.
