KUALA LUMPUR: A groundswell of support for Palestinians has emerged, even as Israel continues its military action in the Gaza Strip.

Various parties and organisations have expressed their strong support for Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s stand that the atrocities should be stopped immediately.

Perikatan Nasional (PN) said the prime minister’s message on Saturday was proof of Malaysia’s determination to see that there are solutions to the conflict, and justice for Palestinians.

Muhyiddin had given an assurance that Malaysia would continue its efforts to fight for the rights of Palestinians.

He also expressed his disappointment with the United Nations Security Council for failing to immediately halt the Israeli violence against the Palestinians.

“These attacks are a war crime and thus a violation of the 1949 Fourth Geneva Convention.”

In a statement yesterday, PN urged world leaders to condemn the tyranny and violence against Palestinians.

“We stand in solidarity with the Palestinians who continue to be oppressed and thrown out from their homeland. The ethnic cleansing and apartheid system practised by the Zionist regime must be stopped immediately.”

PN also called on all Malaysians to show solidarity with the Palestinians and pray that they be given patience, help and victory to preserve their dignity and rights as well as make contributions through the #Aid4Palestine campaign or through other legitimate channels.

The Dewan Negara People’s Well-being Caucus Committee called on all Malaysians, including non-governmental organisations, corporate bodies and political parties to unite in condemning Israel’s despicable actions.

Its chairman, Senator Datuk Razali Idris said the caucus backs the stand of the Malaysian government, which has consistently given strong political, economic and moral support to Palestine and the struggles of its people.

“The best solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict can only be reached through negotiations to ensure regional peace, security and stability.”

Muslim Lawyers Association of Malaysia expressed support for the government’s efforts in ensuring the rights of Palestinians and their struggles over the decades to defend Islam’s third holiest city.

The Malaysian Youth Council urged youths to contribute by praying, donating, sharing information and online activism.
