United ready to spend big to close the gap at the top

MANCHESTER UNITED could have the finest summer transfer window of any Premier League club as they look to close the gap on Manchester City at the top of the table.

As well as edging closer to a full agreement for Jadon Sancho of Borussia Dortmund, links to Raphael Varane continue as he looks to a new challenge away from Real Madrid.

In addition, a La Liga winning midfielder could also be on his way to Old Trafford, with United said to be rivalling Liverpool in a move for Atletico’s Saul Niguez.

Daily Star Sport have rounded up three of the biggest updates on the summer transfer plans of the Red Devils, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer offering further details.

United could add to an agreement for Sancho this summer by bringing in La Liga winning midfielder Saul Niguez ahead of the new campaign, according to Francesc Aguilar.

The 26-year-old has also been heavily linked with a move to Liverpool, but the alleged interest from United could suggest that Paul Pogba might be on his way out.

Saul will be looking to force his way back into the Spain side after missing out on their Euro 2020 campaign in which they lost in the semifinals to Italy.

Manchester Evening News have reported that United are ‘inching closer every day’ to finalising a deal with Real Madrid for Varane that will no doubt delight fans.

France is ready to find a new challenge by moving to the Premier League, and it is Solskjaer’s side who are leading the race by some margin.

The 28-year-old is likely to partner Harry Maguire should he move to Old Trafford, which would rival some of the best duos in the country at the back.

Solskjaer said after United’s friendly win over Derby at the weekend that he won’t be talking openly about Sancho until the deal is completely over the line.

The club announced that an agreement in principle was done at the start of the month, but their manager will not be tempting fate by discussing his new star.

He said: “From what I understand only paperwork, small little details, hopefully we can announce something. Let’s get all the paperwork done and get him over the line and then I can say what I truly feel about the player.” – Daily Sport
