Telekom M’sia to help in nation rebuilding

- KUALA LUMPUR:

Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TM) said its main focus for 2022 is to support the government’s efforts to rebuild the nation post-pandemic, as it gears itself to seize opportunities in the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

Managing director and group chief executive officer Imri Mokhtar said TM is entering its second year of transformation and the company is ready to tackle whatever the new year may bring.

“With the uplift of movement control restrictions in Malaysia and the economy gaining pace, we remain committed to serving the nation.

“We will focus on upholding the national agenda through continuous support for the National Digital Network and MyDigital plans, enabling nationwide 4G and 5G fibre infrastructure, and expanding our fibre broadband coverage,” he said in TM’s Integrated Annual Report 2021 filing in Bursa Malaysia yesterday.

Imri said the company remains steadfast in environmental, social and governance commitments, and will progressively cut down emissions by 30% in 2024, 45% by 2030 and to achieve net-zero emission by 2050.

“On social commitments, TM is set to provide access to high-speed internet to at least 70% of premises nationwide.

“The group also promotes gender diversity in decision-making roles by having a minimum of 30% women on its board of directors and management.”

Meanwhile, Imri said new opportunities will continue to evolve in the mobile, enterprises and public sector, mainly in 5G connectivity, digital and Internet of Things, data centres and cloud solutions.

“To meet these new challenges and opportunities, we are activating more programmes to keep pace with our growth trajectory and will quickly move forward to further enable Digital Malaysia.”

He said the company will also develop innovative solutions and drive digital adoption across a broad customer base comprising homes, small- and medium-enterprises, corporate and government customers.
