Over 1.5 million children given first vaccine dose

LUMPUR: A total of 761,309 children aged between five and 11 or 21.4% of the group have been fully vaccinated under the National Covid-19 Immunisati­on Programme for Children as of Tuesday.

Based on the CovidNOW website, a total of 1,504,066 children or 42.3%, have received at least one dose.

For adolescent­s aged between 12 and 17, 2,889,620 or 92.9% have completed their vaccinatio­n, while 2,988,492 or 96.1% have received at least one vaccine dose.

As for adults, 16,020,386 or 68.1% have received the booster shot, while 22,965,472 or 97.6% have completed their vaccinatio­n and 23,242,030 or 98.8% received at least one dose.

A total of 34,376 vaccine doses were dispensed on Tuesday, comprising 6,906 for the first dose, 22,782 for the second and 4,688 for booster shot, bringing the cumulative number of doses administer­ed under the National Covid-19 Immunisati­on Programme to 70,158,087.

According to the Health Ministry’s GitHub portal, 13 Covid-19 related deaths were reported on Tuesday, with Selangor and Kuala Lumpur recording the highest at three cases each, followed by Kedah and Perak with two cases each, and Malacca, Pahang and Penang with one each.

A total of 3,361 new Covid-19 cases were recorded on Tuesday, with 3,331 or 99.11% in categories one and two.

Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the remaining 30 cases or 0.89% were in categories three, four and five, where 14 cases involved those who did not receive their jabs and who did not complete their vaccinatio­n.

Ten of the cases were those who received both doses , but not the booster shot, while six received the booster dose, he said yesterday.

Noor Hisham added 16 cases involved those aged 60 and above, 17 with comorbidit­ies and one case involved a pregnant woman.

With the additional new cases, the cumulative number of Covid-19 cases on Tuesday was 4,436,912.

A total of 9,484 recovery cases were recorded on Tuesday, bringing the cumulative total to 4,339,521.

On the number of patients admitted to hospitals on Tuesday, 87 involved categories one and two while 93 involved categories three, four and five, he said. – Bernama
