Dressed like Marilyn

Kim Kardashian steps out in Marilyn Monroe’s original gown at Met Gala

-

The Met Gala red carpet has long been a spot to showcase some of the century’s most showstopping looks and designs, and this year’s Met Gala, which took place on Monday, was no exception.

One of the most talked about dresses of the night was worn by fashion entrepreneur Kim Kardashian, who stepped out in the original gown worn by film legend Marilyn Monroe – the “Happy Birthday, Mr President” dress – which is owned by Ripley’s Believe It Or Not!.

Kardashian truly channeled Monroe by dyeing her hair platinum blonde, styled in a sleek twisted bun, to pull together the entire look, which she capped with diamond drop earrings and a white fur jacket.

Kardashian said she had to lose around 7kg in three weeks in order to fit in the dress. She told Vogue: “I imagined I might be smaller in some places where she was bigger and bigger in places where she was smaller. So when it didn’t fit me I wanted to cry because it can’t be altered at all.”

She immediately went on a crash diet, cutting out sugar and carbs, just to wear it for that one night.

“We’re having pizza and donut party back at the hotel [after the Met

Gala],” she added.

Accompanied by boyfriend Pete Davidson,

Kardashian posed for pictures on the red carpet to show off the vintage gown.

Because the skin-tight outfit had such historic significance and was so delicate, she only wore it for those few minutes.

Almost immediately afterwards, she was whisked away to a small fitting room by the Met Gala steps and helped out of the dress by a white-gloved Ripley’s conservationist.

Kardashian then wore a replica of the dress for the rest of the night, as the original made its way back to the Ripley’s museum in Florida under armed guard.
