Inter come from behind to rout, Roma slip up again

-

INTER MILAN came from a goal down to ease to a crushing 6-1 home win over Bologna in Serie A yesterday and climb to fourth in the standings.

Inter, who lost 2-0 at bitter rivals Juventus on Sunday, moved up three places on to 27 points, level with Atalanta in fifth and third-placed Lazio.

“Tonight we were playing against a team that had come from four consecutive victories,” Inter coach Simone Inzaghi told DAZN.

“We took an unfortunate goal but the team stayed in the game, scored immediately and gave a great response. We have won five games out of the last six.”

Bologna took the lead in the 22nd minute with a bizarre goal as a wild shot by Riccardo Orsolini bounced off the back of his team mate Charalampos Lykogiannis and into the net.

The visitors’ joy was short-lived, however, as striker Edin Dzeko levelled four minutes later with a superb first-time shot from the edge of the box.

Federico Dimarco made it 2-1 for Inter with a perfect freekick following Jhon Lucumi’s foul on Lautaro Martinez. Inzaghi’s side added one more goal before halftime.

In the second half, Dimarco netted again, evading his marker Joaquin Sosa inside the area and sending the ball into the bottom left corner.

Inter made it 5-1 through Calhanoglu’s spot kick and Dzeko completed the rout with a tapin in the 76th minute.

“So far we’ve had some good games, today an ugly defeat, but we’re lucky to be able to play right away, play our game and improve many things as we have the quality to do so,” Bologna coach Thiago Motta said.

AS Roma manager Jose Mourinho said that one unnamed player betrayed his teammates with his poor attitude in their 1-1 draw at Sassuolo yesterday.

“And it disappoints me because the effort the squad made was betrayed by one player because of an unprofessional attitude. He betrayed the effort everyone else made,” Mourinho said.

The Portuguese manager declined to name the player. “No. I have already told him in the changing room – something I don’t often do because normally after games I don’t speak in the changing room. I had 16 players out there tonight and I was happy with the attitude of 15 of them,” he added.

“But an unprofessional attitude, an incorrect attitude compared to his teammates – that’s what annoys me. But, it’s a point, a point away from home, and a result you can’t say is negative. I was generally pleased with the attitude of the side.”

On Sunday, Inter travel to Atalanta (7.30pm Malaysian time) and Roma play Torino (10pm) in their last Serie A game before the World Cup break. – Reuters
