Number of flood evacuees unchanged in three states, lower in Selangor

The number of flood evacuees in three states remained the same while Selangor recorded a drop as of 8am yesterday from the night before.

In Malacca, the number of evacuees remained at 24 from six families, said the state Disaster Management Committee secretaria­t.

All of the evacuees who were moved to the relief centre at the State Legislativ­e Assembly Developmen­t and Coordinati­on Committee office in Durian Tunggal were from the Alor Gajah district, specifical­ly Kampung Bukit Balai, Kampung Pulau and Kampung Belimbing.

In Johor, the number of evacuees stayed at 179, with two districts, namely Tangkak and Segamat, still inundated.

The state Disaster

Management Committee said all 47 families are still being housed in four relief centres.

The Disaster Management Committee also said two rivers, Sungai Muar (Buloh Kasap) and Sungai Muar (Kampung Awat) in Segamat were at the warning level, while cloudy skies are reported in several districts including Mersing, Pontian, Segamat, Batu Pahat, Tangkak and Kulai.

In Kelantan, based on the Social Welfare Department’s Disaster Informatio­n website, the total number of evacuees in Rantau Panjang and Pasir Mas remained at 30 individual­s from six families, and they have been placed at Sekolah Kebangsaan Tok Deh in Rantau Panjang.

In Selangor, the state Disaster Management Committee secretaria­t and Civil Defence

Force said the number of evacuees dropped to 558 from 154 families compared with 637 from 172 families. Last night, 12 relief centres opened – four in Sepang, three in Kuala Selangor and five in Kuala Langat.

In Perak, there was an increase in the number of evacuees in the state bringing the total number to 866 from 243 families. All flood victims have been moved to nine relief centres.

The Perak Public Works Department said several roads in the Batang Padang and Muallim districts were open to all vehicles as the water levels have receded but several roads in the Manjung district are still closed to all vehicles due to floods, especially Jalan Changkat Jering-Seri Manjung-Kampung Koh. – Bernama
