Prioritise safety when awaiting convoy: Palace

SANDAKAN: Istana Negara has advised the public to stay on the side of the road and avoid crossing when the Kembara Kenali Borneo convoy passes their locations to prevent untoward incidents.

It also advised the public not to inconvenie­nce themselves waiting for the convoy until late at night, especially with children present.

“Local authoritie­s are urged to take effective control measures to ensure the safety of the public on the roadside,” it said in a post on its Facebook page yesterday.

The Yang di-Pertuan Agong AlSultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin AlMustafa Billah Shah was deeply touched by the overwhelmi­ng response of the people to the Kembara Kenali Borneo tour, which is ongoing until Sept 13.

However, the King and the organising committee are also very concerned about the safety of the public, who eagerly await the arrival of the convoy at each planned location.

Al-Sultan Abdullah and the Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandaria­h have embarked on the tour to connect with the people of Sabah and Sarawak.

The royal couple’s children Tengku Arif Bendahara Tengku Muhammad Iskandar Ri’ayatuddin Shah, Tengku Puteri Raja Tengku Puteri Jihan Azizah ‘Athiyatull­ah, Tengku Puteri Raja Tengku Puteri Ilisha Ameera and Tengku Puteri Raja Tengku Puteri Ilyana are also part of the convoy.

The Kembara Kenali Borneo tour is scheduled to continue its journey through four districts, namely Sandakan, Beluran, Telupid and Ranau.

Among the stops for the convoy are the Sabah Forestry Institute in Telupid district and Tagal Sungai Moroli in Ranau district and a dinner with the community at Pentas Budaya, Kundasang.

The Sept 3 to 13 tour which started in Tawau, will conclude in Teluk Melano, Sarawak, covering a distance of 2,154km along the Pan Borneo Highway connecting Sabah, Sarawak and Brunei.
