Para swimming coach sexual harassment case dropped
The National Sports Council has decided not to take further action regarding allegations of sexual harassment involving a para swimming coach and an athlete under his care.
In a statement yesterday, the council said the case has been classified as “No Further Action” following police investigations, which did not find evidence to support the allegations.
The council, through the Misconduct and Protection in Sports Committee, has also conducted a thorough investigation, including interviewing various parties.
“Based on the findings of the investigations, the council, through recommendations provided by the committee, also found no basis or witnesses to support allegations of misconduct.“
The council said it has decided to reinstate the coach with the responsibility of training national para swimmers who are preparing for the 2024 Paris Paralympic Games.
It also assured a safe environment for all parties involved in its training programmes, adding that it does not take misconduct allegations lightly.
“The council also has comprehensive and transparent complaint and investigation procedures, including prioritising privacy and confidentiality of all parties involved in any investigation conducted.
“In this regard, the council hopes all parties, including the media, understand that the mental and physical well-being of para athletes remains a priority.“
Last February, local media reported that the Malaysian Paralympic Council confirmed a para swimming coach was being investigated for sexually harassing an underage para athlete. Bernama
