LG 10, Bangsar Village I, Jalan Telawi 1, Bangsar, KL (+603 2283 6288/www.acmesouth.com). When it comes to dishing up a soothing platter of comfort food for the soul, Acme South is unlike any other. In the sea of cafés that litter the streets of Bangsar, it’s rare to find one that leaves a lasting impression when most often, food becomes ‘no big deal’ when there’s so many options to choose from. The setup is classy: the concept of an old-fashioned Southern dive bar sans the tacky vintage posters, fresh potted plants adorning the space, and the breezy alfresco garage canopy area fit for a tête-à-tête. Food-wise, Acme bestows you the pleasure of slicing your tender Texan-styled brisket while savouring its smooth, beefy texture that doesn’t require a hint of ketchup or sauce on the side. Besides meat, there’s the comfort of their specialised Southern menu and bits of Asian delights. Don’t forget to check out their array of sweet treats, their wine list, beers and cocktails. Pork-free. Credit cards accepted. MonThu & Sun, 10am-12midnight; FriSat, 10am-1am. $$$ the traditionalists, wholemeal for healthy eaters or honey oat for the artisans. Then your choice of beef, pork, chicken or lamb patty can be topped with, well, nearly anything. Our favourites are the super spicy chilli queso and a classic fried egg. If you’re feeling fruity, throw on a few slices of grilled banana or pineapple. If you’re not a fan of barbecue sauce, try the roasted garlic aioli, curry remoulade, blue cheese dressing, peanut butter or... Nutella? A special mention also goes to the ultimate ‘Fat Basterd’. Get down and dirty and indulge in a whopping double patty (beef, lamb or pork), topped with mouth-watering cheddar cheese, fried egg, homemade barbecue sauce, and the holy grail of ingredients for burgers, bacon. This masterpiece is served with a generous amount of thick-cut potato fries. Even though burgers are main draw, Fatboy’s also offers other mains if you’re not in the mood. Credit cards accepted. (Publika) MonThu & Sun, 11am-11pm; Fri-Sat, 11am-12midnight. (Avenue K) Daily, 11am-10pm. $$ & Sun, 11am-11pm; Fri-Sat, 11am-12.30am. $$$
