Through­out Sarawak. Cel­e­brated by the Dayaks, an um­brella term for the lo­cal in­dige­nous tribes, this is the most im­por­tant fes­ti­val on the Dayak cal­en­dar and cel­e­brates the boun­ti­ful rice har­vest. Fam­ily and friends gather for feasts and tuak is the drink of choice.


Hari Raya Aidil­fitri

Na­tion­wide. Aidil­fitri is cel­e­brated by the Mus­lim ma­jor­ity and marks the end of month­long fast­ing known as Ra­mad­han. Visit open houses, sam­ple won­der­ful Malay food and join in the fes­tiv­i­ties of this an­nual cel­e­bra­tion.


Fi­esta San Pe­dro

Por­tuguese Set­tle­ment, Me­laka (+60 6284 7050). This week-long cel­e­bra­tion lead­ing up to the feast of St Peter, the pa­tron saint of fish­er­men, sees pro­ces­sions, boats adorned with or­na­ments, food fes­ti­vals and cul­tural per­for­mances by the Me­laka Kris­tang com­mu­nity.
