...manage your weight

De-clutter your countertops.

A messy kitchen makes you stressed, which can lead you to eat twice as much food as you would in a tidy space. However, do not get rid of the fruit bowl. Because we tend to eat the first thing we see, women who always have fruit within line of sight weigh nearly 6kg less than those who do not.

Think twice about the cookbooks you are using.

The recipes in some celebrity cookbooks contain too much saturated fat, sugar and salt. Create your own recipes instead, using the “divided plate” method. Take a plate that is no wider than 25cm, fill half of it with non-starchy vegetables, a quarter with a low-GI carbohydrate and the final quarter with lean protein. You will be three times more likely to lose at least five percent of your body weight in the next six months.

Buy smaller storage containers.

When you are consuming everything from leftovers to cereal, you will tend to dish out a smaller portion when you serving from a smaller container. In fact, using a larger container leads to eating 129 per cent more food, adding up to 800kJ to a meal.
