We are still not over how the striking shade of purple that is both bold and loud, can pack an irresistible punch on themed cakes as two of our own homegrown cake brands creatively demonstrate!
KEK& Co. is one of the pioneers when it comes to Klang Valley’s online cake brands. Although the company was founded in 2015, the founders, Satira Diana and Farah Melissa, have both been in the industry for six years before its inception and were competitors in their previous online cake companies Pearl Cakes Events and Raindough respectively. KEK & Co. offers delicious cakes with designs that are bold and on-trend, drawing inspiration from fashion, nature, interior design, pop culture and – in this case – the Pantone Colour of the Year.
For this cake, “a beautiful sunset with splashes of yellow, peach and pink amidst a purple sky” inspired the creation. It was covered with a deep purple Swiss Meringue buttercream. “We tinted our buttercream with pink and blue before adding the purple food colouring,” says Satira.
Using The Colour
“You can incorporate ultraviolet through tinted buttercream, fondant or even melted white chocolate,” says Satira. “This hue can be a pretty versatile colour if you pair it with the right shades – be it neutrals, warms or cold hues. “As it is such a strong colour, it is a good idea to keep this deep purple hue as the dominant shade in your design. When in doubt, try adding a touch of metallic.”
For added luxe, gold splatters were incorporated all around the cake while pop- of- colour details were kept to a minimum.
