La Salle are just a point away from being crowned champions

La Salle Rivareno moved close to being crowned national champions on Saturday afternoon with a 28-22 victory away to arch rivals Aloysians Von Taine.

Kavallieri RS2 had a second successive goal rush after routing Luxol 40-32. Swieqi Phoenix Menrad beat bottom side Sayit-malta HMS 37-5.

Aloysians’ hopes of a sustained challenge for the title were dented as they were swept aside by reigning champions La Salle. Aloysians took matters and dominated the early stages.

Neverthele­ss, La Salle fought back and dominated the second half with a solid and talented performanc­e.

Goal keeper, John Scicluna, distinguis­hed himself affecting some outstandin­g saves in the La Sallian goal.

The win means La Salle, who now have 21 points from 9 matches, are one point away from being crowed champions for the 8th time, fourth league title in a row. La Salle play Swieqi in the final day of the first division league.

Led by player/coach Christian McClean, Kavallieri won a tough encounter against Luxol. The match provided great handball by both teams.

It started on a flowing and balanced pace with both sets of players cancelling each others advantage.

It was mid way through the first half that Kavallieri took the upper hand. They took advantage as they scored a number of goals to increase their lead.

The score at half time was 21-12 for Kavallieri.

Kavallieri slowed down their scoring rhythm in the second half but still maintained total control on the game.

Swieqi dominated against HMS, they dictated matters to impose the heaviest defeat on HMS this season.

Despite trying to improve their performanc­e, HMS failed to impress as Swieqi kept inflicting damage on HMS’s rear guard. Final day fixtures - 22/3/15 2pm Kavallieri v HMS; 3.30pm La Salle v Swieqi; 5pm Aloysians v Luxol
