Nathan Farrugia awarded special recognition by Italy’s triathlon family
Nathan Farrugia, a Eurosport athlete, who completed a recordbreaking triathlon challenge for charity last year, has been awarded special recognition by the Italian Triathlon family at the Gala Del Triathlon in Milan last month.
The Gala event is attended by the “who’s who” in Italian triathlon and recognises the feats of Italian athletes in Olympic, iron-distance and event-hosting categories.
Amongst the winners were a number of para-triathletes that distinguished themselves on the world paralympic scene and also to environmentally friendly race organisers.
Farrugia organised and completed the Ultramed challenge, also sponsored by Eurosport. It raised €50,000 for Inspire. He was given the award for both the philanthropy and the recordbreaking endurance feat.
The short film of the challenge shown at the event, featured his training in Majjistral Park.
It was put together by Kurt Arrigo and BRNDWG and rendered the 700-strong crowd speechless, in awe of the beauty of the Maltese countryside and the message of ‘making a difference through sport’ that the film contained.
Farrugia was accompanied by eight other friends and crew, who took on their own personal challenges to push their limits, helping raise the substantial amount for charity.
In his acceptance speech, Farrugia took the opportunity to highlight the importance of using one’s talents to help others, as well as inviting as many Italian triathletes to come to Malta for the upcoming Xterra Cross Challenge to be held at Majjistral on 29 March.
Dario Nardone, the organiser of the Gala, closed the award by emphasising how sport can be the way to unite, create equality and help those vulnerable to create a better society for all.
