Towards a Mediterranean «Hollywood»
The Maltese motion picture industry last year celebrated not only a record breaking year but its 90th Anniversary of being a film location. Indeed, recently Malta attracted even more attention of world-renowned filmmakers and expanded its portfolio of international blockbusters which were shot on these islands.
These positive changes have hardly been surprising since all efforts are being made to promote Malta as a popular, friendly, safe and high quality resort at the heart of the Mediterranean. Quality is always at the centre of everything. In terms of technical moments, it becomes fundamental. For example, you can easily check that nearly all Oscar-nominated films so far used cameras from a German brand – Arri.
A reception at the Hilton was recently organised by Malta-Rent Ltd., a rental house which came to Malta to become a helpful partner to all local and international filmmakers and provide them with state of the art products for the motion picture industry. According to the CEO of the company Mrs Evgeniya Bernova, who addressed the guests at the event, the range of brands represented by MaltaRent includes Arri, Angenieux, Carl Zeiss, Bebob, Sachtler and so on. This rich portfolio could definitely meet the increasing demand of local production companies, she told guests. During her speech she highlighted that MaltaRent has not come to conquer the film industry, but together with local companies she hopes it will fill a vacuum and therefore make it more attractive.
Mrs Bernova has successfully operated as a supplier of equipment and services to the film, television and media industry for more than 10 years in Russia and the CIS. Now her broad outlook and enthusiastic personality have led her to undertake another ambitious project in Malta.
The opening function took place on April 29 at the refurbished Hilton and the guest list included government representatives, members of local and international political and business establishment, many talented artists. Guests enjoyed live music and the warm atmosphere of a wonderful spring evening.
