Impressive results for Nathan Lee Xuereb and William Chetcuti ●Silver medal for William Chetcuti ●Gold for Xuereb in the juniors category

Maltese Double Trap shooters William Chetcuti and Nathan Lee Xuereb obtained impressive results yesterday in the Fazz’a Italian Green Cup, held in Umbria Verde, Todi Italy.

William Chetcuti obtained the silver medal in the seniors competition, losing the final against Russia’s Vasily Mosin. William was in splendid form in the five rounds of the first phase, even making a straight in the fourth round. In the other rounds he 29, 29, 29 and 28 to finish third with 145 clays.

Mosin and Germany’s Andreas Lowe finished in top spot with 147 clays. Great Briton’s Steven Scott, USA’s Walton Eller, and Italy’s Marco Innocenti completed the top six that qualified for the semi final shoot out.

Chetcuti and Vasily Mosin hit 29 in the semi final to qualify for the gold medal play-off, With Andreas Lowe and Steven Scott qualifying for the bronze medal shoo-off after hitting 28 in the semi final.

Andreas Lowe made a straight against Scott’s 28 to win the bronze medal, and in the final for gold, Malta’s William Chetcuti hit 28 and had to settle for silver as Vasily Mosin made a straight to win the gold medal.

In the Juniors competition Nathan Lee Xuereb was not at his best in the first phase, squeezing through the semi final with a total of 132 clays, after hitting 27, 26, 23, 29 and 27.

In the semi final round Italy’s Emmanuele Buccolieri hit 29, with Xuereb and Conner Gorsuch of Great Britain hitting 28 each, followed by Italy’s Dupre’ with 27. A shoot off was becessary to determine the second finalist, with Nathan Lee Xuereb beating Gorsuch 8-7 to qualify for the final against Buccolieri.

In the final for gold Nathan Lee Xuereb hit top form to hit 29 clays against Buccolieri’s 23 to win the gold medal. The bronze medal was won by Conner Gorsuch who beat Dupre’ 28 against 27.

There will be more international competitions next week for the local shooters as Trap, Skeet and Double Trap shooters will compete at the ISSF World Cup in San Marino.
