Vittoriosa win Cottonera derby

Vittoriosa inflicted the first defeat on promotion favourites Senglea winning a low profile derby thanks to Dhrami well taken freekick on 13 minutes.

Vittoriosa forged ahead after 13 minutes play when Arber Dhrami scored direct from a freekick. Minutes later Senglea were forced to make their first substitution, and the newcomer Guzman went close with a header seconds later.

On 37 minutes Ryan Dalli miskicked from an ideal position after a Vittoriosa defensive blunder. Senglea were now all over their opponents and were unlucky on 40 minutes when a Guzman header hit the crossbar.

On the resumption Vittoriosa had two good opportunities, both through Obiefule but the striker failed to score. On 74 minutes Senglea were reduced to ten players when Cesco Guzman received a second booking after flooring Liam Gauci.

In the remaining minutes Senglea pushed desperately forward but Vittoriosa held on to their slender lead to claim the derby victory.
