GasanMamo Insurance supports cause to fight diabetes

It’s a proven fact that an annual diabetes screening is a way of detecting prediabete­s in its early stages and obviously, it’s easier to treat effectivel­y. Unfortunat­ely, Malta has one of the highest prevalence rates of diabetes worldwide. As per the World Health Organisati­on, it is estimated that the number of local patients will grow from 39,000 in the year 2000 to an alarming 57,000 by the year 2030. In this regard the Maltese Diabetes Associatio­n is working hard to engage everyone to promote diabetes awareness, improve the lives of people with diabetes, encourage healthy lifestyles and reduce one’s individual risk of developing diabetes.

Local insurance company, GasanMamo is supporting MDA’s initiative and joined a group of entities in supporting an event, which was organised on Saturday 5th November at the Plaza Shopping Centre, Sliema to raise consciousn­ess in fighting diabetes. During this event, a free glucose test was offered to the public. This test is used to help diagnose diabetes.

“At GasanMamo we are committed to help the Maltese Diabetes Associatio­n to enhance its awareness of the impact of diabetes and the importance of living a healthy lifestyle. Moreover, we are dedicated to educate and inform the public about their risk for developing type 2 diabetes; providing support for tools and resources to help those with the illnesses better manage it as well as raise funds to aid stop this disease,” said Julian Mamo, Managing Director.

This event forms part of MDA’s effort not only to promote awareness but to mark World Diabetes Day, which will be celebrated on 14th November with the internatio­nal theme chosen being ‘Eyes on Diabetes’. GasanMamo Insurance is concerned at the growing number of people with diabetes. This is a serious health condition that not only affects one’s lifestyle, but can put you at risk for many other health issues, including high blood pressure, stroke, and nerve damage. For this purpose, the company will keep supporting MDA in its continuous efforts to raise public responsive­ness.
