Zejtun move closer to promotion

Zejtun Corinthian­s continued their march towards promotion when they beat Swieqi United by two goals to one in the first match at the Luxol Stadium.

Alan Tabone and Kunpei Tanaka gave Zejtun a 2-0 lead on 20 and 32 minutes respective­ly with Swieqi reducing the deficit through Roderick Taliana on 45 minutes.

Birzebbuga registered an easy victory against bottom side Ghaxaq winning 4-1 at the Charles Abela Stadium. The goals came from Ronnie Celeste, Andrea Sant (2) and Keith Muscat with Ghaxaq scoring a consolatio­n goal through Bjorn Dalli.

Qrendi also continued their positive run with a slender 1-0 victory over Marsaxlokk at the Sirens Stadium. Giovanni Galea scored the winning goal after 35 minutes.

Siggiewi eked out a difficult win over Gudja United by two goals to one.

Mark Camilleri scored a brace on 58 and 80 minutes with Gudja temporaril­y equalising through a penalty by Dylan Lee Tanti on 67 minutes.

Mgarr United came from behind to beat Attard and keep their hopes alive. Mauro Grioli opened the scoring for Attard after just two minutes but a brace from Kenneth Aquilina on 55 and 57 minutes made it 2-1 for Mgarr.

Zabbar St Patrick also beat Mellieha by two goals to one in an exciting encounter at the Luxol Stadium. Samuel Buhagiar gave St Patrick’s the lead on 21 minutes but Mellieha equalised through James Borg on 63 minutes. The winning goal came from Jean Claude Cesare two minutes from time.

In the Friday night match, San Gwann maintained their promotion hopes when they beat St George’s by a solitary goal scored on 26 minutes by Jonathan Bugeja.
