Lincoln to face Sutton or Arsenal in FA Cup quarter-finals

-

Lincoln City’s reward for reaching the quarter-finals of the FA Cup will be an away tie against either Sutton United or Arsenal.

Chelsea will host Manchester United in another mouthwatering last eight tie.

Imps fans crammed into the Travis Perkins Suite at Sincil Bank as the draw was made. They went wild when they were given a possible match-up with Arsene Wenger’s Gunners.

‘We’re coming for you, we’re coming for you, Arsene Wenger, we’re coming for you,’ they sang.

The Imps became the first nonLeague side to make it to the last eight of the competition since 1914 when they knocked out Burnley.

Sean Raggett’s 89th-minute winner sent the 3,200 supporters in the away end at Turf Moor into delirium.

Cowley was left frustrated, however, at the allocation the National League side got for their trip to Lancashire. There shouldn’t be such a problem if Arsenal beat Sutton tonight.

Asked who the Lincoln manager would rather face, he said: ‘I genuinely hope Sutton United can do it as that would be great for non-League.

‘I’ve been in non-League football all of my life and it would be great for the game. Not sure I’d rather play Sutton as they’d be more pressure on us if they did.

‘I genuinely hope for the nonLeague game it’s Sutton. To have two teams in the last eight and potentially one in the semi-finals would be brilliant.

‘To come up against Arsene Wenger would be a dream. I am in this game to test myself and there aren’t many tougher tests than going to the Emirates.

‘He’s having a tough period at the moment but he’s an experienced manager and no doubt he’ll navigate his way through it.

‘He’s been a pioneer for English football. He’s been brilliant. He’s having a tough period at the moment.’

Millwall will travel to Tottenham in a London derby after Neil Harris’s side got past Claudio Ranieri’s hapless Premier League champions Leicester City.

Middlesbrough nearly suffered a shock at the hands of Oxford. They were 2-0 up before Oxford got themselves back into the game at 2-2. Aitor Karanka’s side went on to grab a winner through Cristhian Stuani and will play either Huddersfield or Manchester City at the Riverside Stadium.
