Malta Society of Arts launches its summer courses schedule

The Malta Society of Arts (MSA) will be holding thirty different courses this summer, all starting at the beginning of July. The majority of the courses consist of nine sessions held weekly at the MSA’s premises, the grand Palazzo de La Salle, on Republic Street, Valletta, and come to an end in the first few weeks of September.

The MSA was the first ever arts institution to organise such courses on the islands, and its long experience is reflected in the quality of the education offered to people of all ages. These Summer Courses are held during the day and the wide variety of courses attracts a diverse mix of children and adults in equal measures.

Under the Visual Arts umbrella, the MSA will be offering art courses for children and young people, divided according to age brackets, as well as art for leisure and for adults, clay modelling, wood carving, a basic photography course, a make-up course and a human figure art (nude) course, which will also be held in the evenings due to popular demand.

Another course which will attract attention is the one in manga art, catering for a growing interest in the Japanese art form and in comics in general. This introductory course will focus on offering hands-on exercises and practical work, with a basis of theory to support the practice.

The Applied Arts section will include cake decorating, various types of embroidery, lace making, curtain making, cottage crafts, dressmaking, hansa and hardanger, crochet, knitting and ganutell, among others. In the Performing Arts area, courses will be offered in voice, pianoforte, guitar, violin and drama.
