All square in exciting end of season match

-

Ten-man Sirens snatched a point against Melita in a highly entertaining match with both teams having numerous scoring opportunities.

Melita took the lead on five minutes when from a Singleton cross from the right, Axl Xuereb on the far post darted in to slot the ball home. Ten minutes later Melita went close again with an Axl Xuereb header missing the target.

On 25 minutes Sirens drew level when Caruana passed towards Daniel Agius who fired a beauty in the top corner from ana acute angle. Sirens were now playing the better football and Melita goalkeeper Rizzo denied Agius from a second scoring.

On 42 minutes in Sirens’ best patch, Melita were back in front when from a Cornago corner, Matthis Fenech left the ball to Axl Xuereb who drilled the ball home. Two minutes later Melita should have scored again when Axl Xuereb dribbled his way on the left flank before crossing towards Emilio Cornago who shot incredibly over the bar when all alone in front of goal.

Seven minutes into the second half a Newuche header was cleared off the goal line by Parrado and on 55 minutes Sirens were reduced to ten men when Jean Noel Azzopardi received a second booking for a nasty foul on Matthias Fenech.

Seven minutes from time Melita paid dearly for their mistakes as Daniel Agius beat the offisde trap to fire in the top corner.

But the last chance came again Melita’s way when Singleton dribbled goalkeeper Romano and fired towards goal only to find defender Daniel Sant on his way, who somehow managed to block a certain goal.
