Students graded in Mon Lung Kung fu

A number of students attending Kung fu classes in Mon Lung Kung fu have recently completed their Grading examinations at the Malta Self-Defence Academy.

The Grading sessions were held in the club’s premises in Fleur-DeLys, where junior and senior students were examined separately by Club founder and Chief instructor Sifu Mark Spiteri, who was assisted by Sifu Daniel Portelli.

All students taking part in these examinations were assessed on the theory and practice of the art. All students demonstrated different techniques ranging from a wide variety of kicks, punches, blocks and choreographed fighting movements (called forms/taolu).

Moreover, students also had to defend themselves against a number of attacks ranging from holds/locks, kicks, hand strikes and weapon attacks. These examinations were held in the presence of all club members.

Following these grading examinations, the club held an official ceremony whereby all successful students were awarded their much-awaited sashes and certificates by Sifu Mark in the presence of all club members.

Among these candidates, there were two senior students, Donald and Luigi Mallia who were assessed and later awarded their brown sash.

During their examination, these students demonstrated six different forms (taolu), defence against armed assailants, study of vital points in the human body and also Chinese philosophy. This is a key achievement for these students who after many months of hard training, they attained this important level in their study.

Being father and son who have been training together for a number of years, makes it even more special!
