Prime Minister downplays magistrate’s decision, says it confirms Busuttil has no proof

- ■ Gabriel Schembri

Joseph Muscat said that the magistrate told Dr Simon Busuttil that “the evidence brought forward has nothing to do with the allegations made on my wife Michelle Muscat.”

“So, after all, we realise that faced with these allegations, Simon Busuttil had no proof,” he added while insisting that Dr Busuttil isn’t capable of leading.

Addressing a cheerful crowd in Għaxaq yesterday evening, Dr Muscat repeated what he has already claimed before when referring to the court investigations on the PN allegations – that he is looking forward to the investigation’s conclusion so that the whole truth can come out. He insisted he has nothing to hide.

Dr Muscat said that if the second Magistrate finds evidence on the allegations made, charges will be put forward.

He said that unlike the Leader of the Opposition, he is not afraid of being investigated. Dr Muscat referred to the MEPs offices at the PN headquarters.

Commenting on the invitation to appear before the PANA Committee, Dr Muscat reiterated that he will accept the invitation only when the inquiry is concluded.

At no point did Dr Muscat mention the remarks made by the magistrate that there is enough evidence to launch a criminal investigation on his chief of staff Keith Schembri.

He lashed out at the PN leader for taking no position on the promise of giving back bank holidays to the public. “We are proposing costed promises. I called on this election responsibly as I cannot have anyone endanger one single job.”

While apologising to the people of the locality for calling the general election on the St Joseph feast in Għaxaq, Dr Muscat said that through the PL proposals, every man and woman in Malta will receive a check in tax rebates.

He urged the public to go and vote, “or you will end up with a government who offered nothing but political revenge.” Dr Muscat said that while the previous administration delivered utility bills, this Labour Party government will deliver checks.

Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi and Anthony Agius Decelis spoke before Dr Muscat. Agius Decelis lashed out at the Leader of the Opposition for “attacking” the Prime Minister’s family. “This is the lowest level of politics.”

MPs Deborah Schembri, Joe Mizzi and PL candidate Jean Claude Micallef were also present.
