Mercedes Benz Fashion Week kicks off

-

The Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Malta kicked off last night at 19:30 at Fort St Elmo. The grand venue has been set up so as to cater for a number of exhibitions ongoing throughout the week on every night including exhibitions, shows and presentations. This year a number of popup displays have also been set up by our local designers allowing one to examine the collections from a more personal point of view.

The first show of the night was La Cupola by Rosemarie Abela a collection which drew its inspiration from the Mosta Dome, Malta Skyline and Neo Classical period. The collection featured some innovative designs using a mix of fabric manipulation and a play with textures.

The crowd then moved on to view the exhibition. All exhibitions will be ongoing throughout the week of fashion week but each designer will be having their own launch event throughout the week.

Yana’s Jewellery presented her exhibition Mystical Branches yesterday amidst a reception serving drinks and nibbles. The location is inspired by some of Gustav Klimt’s works, mainly his famous mural known as The Tree of Life. The interesting display, setup in such a way as to embody a stunning gold tree featured different gold frames suspended from the ceilings with the necklaces located inside of these frames.

The third event of the night was Sarah Caruana Dingli with Pas De Deux inspired by the twosided characteristics of ballerinas. The collection was presented in a circular setup using a number of models walking alongside a video showing a pas de deux ballet. The final event of the night was Nilara with ‘ Unforgiven’, a glamorous gothic inspiration featuring a range of interesting, whimsical, almost unearthly pieces.

With thanks to Valletta 2018, Arts Council Malta and Heritage Malta as well as the the corporate sponsors of Malta Fashion Week and Awards, namely Mercedes Benz, Chamilia, ALDO, Tresemme, Eva Garden and Coca Cola.
