A goal by Jordan Camilleri with 22 seconds to spare gave Neptunes Leo Vegas an important win as they defeated Sliema Frank Salt in the historical derby. It was a game played in front of a sizeable crowd that were disappointed with the match, as both teams had their momentum in the game, and if it finished in a draw, might have been a fair result.

Guillermo Molina was the best player on the pitch as he scored a hat-trick, controlled well Stevie Camilleri and dictated Sliema’s attacks, while a positive note for Neptunes was the three goals scored by Blary, but their main scorer Stevie Camilleri didn’t score and also missed a penalty.

Sliema started the game in a positive way as they went 4-1 in front and looked to dominate the game, but a quick brace by Jordan Camilleri kept Neptunes in the game as the session ended with a one goal difference.

Those two goals seem to give Neptunes new energy, as they managed to turn the game with a good session. Michael Spiteri Staines made it 5-3 for Sliema, but a brace by centre Jeremy Abela, and a goal each by Niki Lanzon and Miguel Zammit put Neptunes 7-5 ahead.

The game continued on the same rhythm and after Blary cancelled the goal by Meli, two goals in the space of a minute by Molina and Spiteri Staines made the score 8-8, until Romain Blary assured that Neptunes stay in front.

The last session proved to be decisive. Sliema were more determined to save the game and equalised twice, but two goals from Lanzon and the last one by Jordan Camilleri in Neptunes’ last action, gave Maslovar’s team the win.

Marsaxlokk Fischer suffered their first league defeat after five consecutive wins, when they were beaten 9-8 by Marsascala Transcripta. A deserved win for Pierre Borg’s team as they were more compact in their play throughout the match, and took advantage of their opponents’ weaknesses. Marsaxlokk didn’t play as usual as they weren’t cynical in their play, where they gave a lot of spaces to their opponents.

A brilliant session by Marsascala resulted in a 6-1 win, which was caught by surprise by Marsaxlokk. But the Champions recovered and scored four consecutive goals before the break, to finish the session a goal under.

The game was practically even now, and both teams couldn’t take full control of the lead. Marsascala managed to equalise, but a goal by youngster Cutajar kept Marsascala one goal ahead. Vlahovic scored again to make the score 9-7.

Sean Meli kept his team in the game with a goal from central position, but Marsaxlokk’s efforts till the end of the game weren’t successful.
